Howard Instruments was appointed both a Smiths and VDO sales and service agent soon after inception and has continued to sell and service both brands.

Howard Instruments has specialised in Speedometer, Tachometer and gauge repair and restoration over the past 38 years.

We share your interest in restoration and improvement through our participation in Historic Touring Car Racing and Tarmac Rally.

Our library of screen printed dials has been expanded to complement our restoration services along with providing the basis of our range of custom gauges and instrument clusters.

We convert mechanical instruments to electronic and provide modified instruments and accessories for engine conversion projects and changes of ignition, voltage and polarity. Capillary temperature gauges, custom speedometer and tachometer cables along with fuel senders are also a specialty.

We have also moved with advent of new products and technologies into areas such as the installation of Electronic Throttle Systems, Road Speed Limiting and rpm control systems, Weighing systems, Fleet Management, Fuel Monitoring and data logging. We repair Digital Instrument Clusters and Digital Odometers. 

Our Speedometer Testing service includes a logged report. We correct instrument calibration and use electronic and mechanical interfaces along with calibration of the instrument itself We are currently developing a number of CAN instrumentation solutions. We install CAN interfaces to run accessories such as cruise controls for electronic throttle systems.

We are one of Australia's largest sellers of VDO Instruments and arguably sell the broadest range.
Our appointment as a VDO Regional Distributor in 1998 and our physical location means that we can ship VDO aftermarket products nationally or internationally faster than anyone else.
